LISBON, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Portuguese government welcomes the presentation of a final text for a Libyan political agreement, the Portuguese ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement on Thursday.
"In this crucial phase of the transition phase, the Portuguese government reiterates its firm position of support for the crisis in Libya as well as its intention of continuing to support the Libyan people in their path to reconciliation, stability and development," the statement reads.
The UN is trying to broker peace in a deeply divided state where there is great tension between nationalists and Islamists.
Earlier this week, UN envoy Bernardino Leon revealed that a draft formulation had been made in Skhirat, near Morocco's capital, for both government rivals to sign: the internationally recognized government led by Khalifa Ghweil, and Libya Dawn, an alliance of Islamist former militias.
Prime Minister Khalifa Ghweil has said the power-sharing deal contained elements that were against the country's principles since dictator Muammar Gadhafi was overthrown.
The Portuguese ministry of foreign affairs "calls for sense of responsibility on all parts so that this text can be confirmed as soon as possible and to be able to go ahead with the appointment of a government of national agreement."
