RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Under record-high temperatures, the Rock in Rio music festival kicked off its fifteenth edition on Friday to celebrate the event's 30th anniversary.
Organizers estimate an audience of 85,000 people per day. Concerts will also be broadcast live on the festival's official website.
The Rock in Rio festival started its first edition in Rio in 1985 and held its second and third in 1990 and 2001. Later on, organizer Roberto Medina decided to expand his business to other cities. In 2004, he held the first overseas edition in Lisbon, Portugal.
Despite its name, the Rock in Rio festival goes beyond rock and roll, with many pop singers as well as local artists with typically Brazilian music being featured.
