TOKYO, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares ended the morning session sharply lower on Friday as investors were disappointed by the result of a U.S. Federal Reserve's meeting that left the country interest rates unchanged.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average plunged 256.91 points, or 1. 39 percent, from Thursday to 18,175.36.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 20.75 points, or 1.39 percent, at 1, 471.16.
