BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping's coming visit to the United States will achieve rich results in a wide range of areas as the two countries seek to expand cooperation, Assistant Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang said Thursday.

Zheng told a press briefing that President Xi will visit Seattle and Washington during the state visit.

The President will speak at a dinner banquet hosted by the local government and friendly groups in Seattle, where he will meet local officials and top executives from U.S. companies. Xi's Seattle schedule will also include a reception hosted by the Chinese community.

President Xi will receive a red-carpet welcome at the White House, hold talks with President Barack Obama and meet the press during his visit to Washington. He will also meet with U.S. parliament leader, said Zheng.

Both countries are working on a number of cooperation deals for trade, military ties, energy, environmental protection and aerospace.

He said they are stepping up coordination on global economic growth, climate change, development and peace-keeping efforts.

They are working to reach fresh consensus on regional issues, such as Asia-Pacific affairs, Iranian nuclear issue, the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsular and the Afghanistan issue.

He said leaders of the two countries will "frankly communicate" on issues in a bid to reduce misunderstandings and address problems in a "constructive manner".

Zheng said the leaders will discuss fresh, active efforts to expand people-to-people exchanges by reaching new deals on facilitating each country's travel and tourism.

"I believe with concerted efforts from the two sides, President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States this time will be a successful visit with historic significance. It will enable the China-U.S. cooperation to bring more benefits to people of the two countries and the world at large," said Zheng.

President Xi will pay a state visit to the United States from Sept. 22 to 25.
