The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with Arken Imirbaki, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), at the Peace Palace in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, Eang Sophalleth, an aide to the prime minister, told reporters after the talks.

"Prime Minister Hun Sen congratulated China on successfully commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory over the World Anti-Fascist War," he said. "He also hailed China for its rapidly economic development."

According to Sophalleth, Hun Sen expressed his satisfactions with good relations between Cambodia and China, and suggested that the two countries further boost trade and investment ties in order to achieve the yearly trade volume of five billion U.S. dollars from 2017.

For his part, Arken Imirbaki said it was his first trip to Cambodia in order to further enhance China-Cambodia relations and to expand cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Arken Imirbaki arrived in Cambodia on Wednesday for a three-day visit. Earlier in the day, he met separately with Cambodia's acting-head of state Say Chhum and National Assembly President Heng Samrin to discuss ways to further enhance ties and cooperation between the two countries.
