BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Three isolated locations in Taiwan and Chinese mainland had reported new development on dengue epidemic on Wednesday.

In Taiwan, the number of dengue cases climbed to 10,384, with 9,103 cases reported in the southern city of Tainan and another 1,108 in neighboring Kaohsiung, the island's disease control center said. 38 patients are still in intensive care.

Residents living inside marked outbreak areas are mobilized to carry out regular inspections to make sure their living environment is clean and dry, according to the epidemic command center.

Across the strait, Chaozhou in Guangdong Province is also in the midst of a dengue outbreak with 443 cases as of Tuesday.

A total of 195 people remain hospitalized to treat the infection. Seven of them are in serious condition, the city's health and family planning commission said.

Disease control experts have warned of risks of a dengue outbreak in Guangdong due to its large mosquito population. The southern province reported the majority of the mainland's 46,000 dengue cases last year.

In the meantime, eastern China's Zhejiang Province on Wednesday also reported a dengue fever patient who just returned from overseas.

The patient, a Chinese national, returned from Dhaka, Bangladesh on Sept. 3 and experienced headaches, weakness and fever. The patient reported his symptoms to the local inspection and quarantine bureau on Tuesday.

The patient, now in a stable condition in hospital, likely contracted the disease through a mosquito bite, health authorities said.
