JAKARTA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia recorded higher corruption rank to 117 from 175 countries constituted in Corruption Perception Index (CPI) survey this year, seeing a score of 34 from the scales of 0 to 100 in which zero represents the most severe corruption and 100 represents the cleanest from corruption.
The rank was higher than 107 from 174 countries with equal score of 34 the nation obtained last year. The score was a bit improving if compared to 32 it recorded in 2013.
However, Indonesia's corruption score was lower than the average scores recorded by other nations in the world and in Southeast Asia regions that stood at 43 and 39 respectively this year.
"From the stagnant scores obtained in the survey, it was learned that stagnancy persisted in political and permit issuance sectors," Transparency International Indonesia (TII) Secretary General Dadang Trisansongko said in his remarks to launch results of the survey here on Tuesday.
He was citing to the equal scores Indonesia recorded in the last two years.
The survey was aimed at mapping the risk generated by corruption, assessing the efficacy of governments' policies in combating corruption.
Indonesia has launched an instrument to combat corruption called National Strategy on Corruption Prevention and Eradication program (Stranas PPK).
Wahyudi Thohary, a researcher of International Transparency, said Stranas PPK was an instrument that potentially capable to address the rampant corruption as it uses results of CPI and National Integrity System (NIS) to measures the indicators of success to eradicate corruption.
"The use of CPI and NIS to measure the success of the ( combating corruption) efforts was correct as they also serve as global indicators commonly used for the same term in the world," Wahyudi added.
He said Indonesia was serious in dealing with corruption issue as the government has issued a legal basis for long and medium periods, span for 2012 to 2025 and 2012 to 2014 respectively, for the efforts to eradicate corruptions in the country.
