BEIJING, Sept. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi Tuesday met with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is in Beijing for a visit to discuss Iran's nuclear deal and efforts to boost ties with China.

Wang said:"China and Iran both agreed that the deal on the Iranian nuclear issue should be fully implemented and it is urgent for all sides to deliver their promises and kick off the first step of the implementation process. China will take its own responsibility and deliver the promises we made, and proactively participate in the works including the modification of the Arak nuclear reactor and continue to play a constructive role during the implementation of the deal."

Mohammad Javad Zarif said:"Regarding the future of the nuclear deal and whether it will be affected by a change of politics in the US, I would like to say that by international laws, all the governments in every country in the world has the responsibility to keep the promises the previous government has made and continue to deliver the promises. The US government has agreed to stop its sanctions against Iran and I hope they can deliver their promises even if there is change of Presidents and governments in the future."

China and Iran have close diplomatic and economic ties. China played an active role in pushing both the US and Iran to reach an agreement on the nuclear issue this July. Under the pact, sanctions imposed by western countries will be lifted in exchange for restrictions on nuclear work.

But at the same time in the US, Republican Senators have tried a second time to move ahead on a resolution rejecting the Iran nuclear deal, while Democrats are poised to block the move and ensure it fails.
