India condoles loss of lives at crane crash in Mecca

NEW DELHI, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- India Saturday condoled the loss of lives in the crane collapse at the Grand Mosque in Mecca in Saudi Arabia, in which nine Indians sustained injuries.

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi all offered their condolences to the families of those killed.

"Heartfelt condolences to families of deceased due to crane crash in Mecca, prayers for speedy recovery of the injured," Mukherjee tweeted.

The vice president expressed deep sadness over the accident at the Grand Mosque in Mecca that has resulted in casualties and wishes speedy recovery to the injured persons, a statement said.

Modi also took to social media to offer his condolences.

"My thoughts & prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives in the crane crash in Mecca. I wish the injured a quick recovery," the prime minister tweeted.

Over 100 people were killed in Friday's mosque accident.
