LISBON, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Portugal launched its first edition of the country's Chinese Film Show on Thursday with over 30 Chinese films being screened in capital Lisbon to promote cultural exchange between the two countries.

A total of 32 Chinese films will be screened throughout the event which ends on Sept. 30.

The Portuguese Cinemateca will give a historical overview of Chinese films made between 1933 and 1997.

There will also be a retrospective of the well-known Chinese film director Xie Jin and a number of contemporary films will be screened including Hou Hsiao-Hsien's The Assassin.

"The Chinese Film Show aims to show Chinese cinematography and to promote exchange through dialogue between managers and professionals of Chinese and Portuguese films," Portuguese Secretary of State for Culture Jorge Barreto Xavier said in a statement.

The Chinese Film Show was launched following an official visit to China last November by Barreto Xavier, and a Portuguese Film Festival is due to be launched in China next year.

LISBON, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Portugal launched its first edition of the country's Chinese Film Show on Thursday with over 30 Chinese films being screened in capital Lisbon to promote cultural exchange between the two countries.

A total of 32 Chinese films will be screened throughout the event which ends on Sept. 30.

The Portuguese Cinemateca will give a historical overview of Chinese films made between 1933 and 1997.
