BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- China displays some of the most advanced home-made helicopters in the country's biggest Heli-expo in the Northern port city of Tianjin. These choppers were part of a performance on Wednesday, staged by China's only helicopter aerobatics team.
WZ-10 attack helicopters -- the latest additions to PLA's military air fleet. Some death-defying stunts, and a host of manoeuvres with plenty of coloured smoke, wowed the spectators at the show. WZ-10 is China's first domestically designed and produced attack helicopter. In warfield, it is most capable of launching attacks by hedgehopping.
"The captain sits at the back and controls the moves. There's a slim chance of being shot and discovered by the enemy because of its narrow body," Pilot Liu Bo with Fenglei Aerobatics Team said.
This is designed for anti-tank warfare, and could also make air-to-air attacks.
"This is the aerogun, the helmet the pilot is wearing controls its direction. It is not exaggerating that the target is one hundred percent shot," Pilot Liu said.
Members of the team must have more than 2,000 flight hours, before being allowed to join the elite group.
The sophisticated moves are real skills required in the battles.
"It's not easy for aircraft to do somersault. A helicopter needs to be modified in order to finish sophisticated moves. But WZ-10 we used this time is no different than what it used to be. It was the dazzling star in the air," Pilot Liu said.
The expo, which runs through Sunday, has attracted the participation of more than 160 foreign producers across the world.
