Uganda's Chemutai wins two silver medals at Youth Games in Samoa

KAMPALA, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's Peruth Chemutai on Wednesday won her second silver medal at the on-going 5th Commonwealth Youth Games in Apa, Samoa.

"We are proud of our two athletes who have performed well and won four medals in Samoa," Beatrice Ayikoru, the Secretary Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told Xinhua on Wednesday.

On Monday Chemutai won silver in the 1,500m race with a time of 4:18:22 behind Australia's Amy Hardling Delloze.

Ayikoru said Chemutai was in good form again on Wednesday to win silver in the 3,000m to finish behind Kenya's Sheila Chelangat.

Ayikoru said in the two races Uganda's Janat Chemusto also won two bronze medals.

Uganda are now placed 18th on the medal table with Australia in the lead with 39 medals, while South Africa is second with 23 medals.

The other Uganda's athletes at the games Yasin Abudallah Adiman stopped in the quarter finals of the 56 kg boxing competition, while Elisha Ekikubisenzatabatemwa will compete in the 50m freestyle swimming competition on Thursday.

In the previous 4th Edition of the Games that were hosted in Douglas, Isle of Man, Uganda won one gold medal, three silvers and one bronze in athletics.
