BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday, pledging continued support for the UN and Ban himself.
Ban is in Beijing for China's commemorations for the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He is also on an official visit to the country.
This year coincides with the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, Li said, saying the UN has played an important role in maintaining world peace and promoting common development.
China looks forward to and actively pushes for consensus at a series of UN summits later this year, safeguarding the achievements of world anti-fascist war and the post-war international order, and promoting global peace and sustainable development to realize new improvement and breakthrough, he said.
The premier said China will keep increasing input in poverty reduction, try its best to address climate change and contribute with concrete actions to the implementation of the UN Post-2015 Development Agenda.
Ban said the UN speaks highly of China's efforts in boosting domestic economy and reducing poverty, promoting world peace, stability and development.
He expressed belief that China will play a bigger role in promoting global sustainable development and fighting climate change.
