BUCHAREST, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Romania and Moldova agreed to reactivate the joint commission of their respective defence ministries, in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation, Romanian Defense Minister Mircea Dusa said on Thursday.
Dusa made the remarks after meeting with his visiting Moldovan counterpart Anatol Salaru.
The two defense ministries would meet regularly in Moldova and Romania to support Moldova's Euro-Atlantic path, Dusa said. The joint commission is to have their meeting this September in Chisinau, Moldova's capital.
Dusa said during his meeting with Salaru, both sides mainly talked about the defense agreements Romania has in force with Moldova.
"We constantly moved for the Romanian troops to provide support such as to facilitate the Moldovan army's structuring according to NATO standards," he said, adding that Moldovan and Romanian troops had participated in joint training exercises.
The Ukraine crisis was a topic of concern in the talks between the two ministers.
According to Dusa, the implementation of the Minsk peace agreements must be sped up, as an efficient and viable solution can be reached only through dialogue and by way of diplomacy.
The Moldovan defense minister said Moldova was in an area of uncertainty, an area under threat from the East, "we need Romania's support more than ever, to rebuild the army, to reform the army, and strengthen our defense capacity."
Salaru is the first Moldovan minister who visited Bucharest after the new government led by Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet was sworn into office in Chisinau on July 30.
Moldova experienced a political crisis this summer when Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici decided to step down on June 12, amid alleged falsification of his high school diploma. Finally, three "pro-European" parties signed a coalition agreement, after tough negotiations.
