MOSCOW, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Russian aviation authority Rosaviatsiya said five people were killed and 11 survived in a Mi-8 helicopter crash in Russia's Khabarovsk region, the TASS news agency reported Saturday.
The Interfax news agency earlier cited an unnamed source saying six people were killed, but its latest report said 11 of the 16 people onboard survived, citing the Russian Emergency Ministry's Far Eastern regional center.
The helicopter with 13 passengers and three crew members, took off from Polina Osipenko village at 3:45 pm (0545 GMT) and was due to land at 5:20 pm (0720 GMT) in the Lake Ongochan area, yet crashed into the Ongochan Bay of the Sea of Okhotsk, according to the center.
Rosaviatsiya said rescuers are trying to go to the crash site by ship, as the thick fog in the sea makes it impossible to fly there.
The cause of the accident is yet to be known.
