Tokyo stocks open lower on yuan's devaluation

TOKYO, Aug. 12 (Xinhua)-- Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower in early trading Wednesday following the central bank of China's surprise steep devaluation of the yuan the previous day.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 59.66 points, or 0.29 percent, from Tuesday to 20,661.09. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 4.34 points, or 0.26 percent, to 1,683.26.

Decliners were led by mining, iron and steel and oil and coal products.
