ANKARA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Istanbul on Monday witnessed two attacks as the country is intensifying operations to fight Islamic State (IS) militants.
Two gunmen on Monday opened fire on the U.S. consulate building in Istanbul, Turkey's largest city. Police shot back but the attackers managed to escape. There were no casualties in the attack, according to local media reports.
In the small hours of Monday, a bomb-laden vehicle was blown up in the Fatih Police Station in Sultanbeyli district of Istanbul and at least 10 people were injured, including three police officers.
Two attackers were reportedly killed in an exchange of fire with police after the explosion.
The attacks came as Turkey has been intensifying its operations against IS militants, a move following a suspected IS suicide bombing that killed 32 people in border town Suruc on July 20.
The Turkish government granted permission for anti-IS coalition forces, including the United States and other regional countries, to deploy manned and unmanned aircraft in Turkey's military air bases.
Six F-16 fighters, which are expected to conduct airstrikes against IS targets in neighboring Syria and Iraq, arrived at Incirlik Air Base in Adada province in southern Turkey on Sunday, the private Dogan news agency reported.
