How hot it is in China recently? If you never tried frying eggs on the ground, you may do it now in China.

Following two maps show the areas where were and are hit by heat waves Wednesday and Thursday with the darkest red parts reporting a temperature above 40 degrees Celsius.

Maps provided by the Central Meteorological Station, China.

The CMS's account on China's Twitter-like microblogging service Sina Weibo complained about the continuous hot weather, "Who said it's getting cool?"

A media report about an African student studying medicine in southeast China's Fujian Province who plans to escape from the heat by returning his hometown in Kenya went viral online.

The heat has inspired Chinese Internet users to crack jokes in order to get through the unbearable weather.

One of the most widely circulated jokes is like this, "I am braised on the bed, barbequed when going out, boiled in the swimming pool, fried on my way back home, and when I am finally back, I am put in the wok all over again."

Internet user "jrenelt" asked on Weibo, "Fried, steamed, boiled and barbequed, which way do you prefer? Want some pepper?"

Netizens brainstormed several ways to stay cool. One proposal is to "look at your paycheck". The small number on it is like a wet blanket which will suddenly make your heart cool down. Brilliant, isn't it?
