Chinese Embassy in Zambia marks 88th anniversary of founding of PLA

LUSAKA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in Zambia celebrated the 88th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) late on Tuesday night with a senior military official declaring that China will continue to adhere to active defense military strategy.

While indicating that China will never provoke any country, Zheng Qinli, the defense attach at the Chinese Embassy, said the Asian nation has enough determination and credible capacity to safeguard territorial integrity, legitimate rights and the safety of its citizens.

"As it is known to all, the PLA has been a staunch force upholding world peace and regional stability. It has been taking an active part in international disaster relief and humanitarian aid operations," he said.

The military official further said China, as one of the five permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, has made its contributions and fulfilled its obligations to the international community.

Meanwhile, China attaches much importance to developing the relationship between Zambia and Chinese armed forces and regards it as an important and integral part of bilateral relations.

While acknowledging the current bilateral relations between the defense forces of the two countries, the military official called for strengthened relations.

"This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Victory of the world Anti-Fascist War.It coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Victory of the War of resistance against Japan, during which millions of Chinese people made sacrifices," he added.

Sydney Mushanga, Zambia's Deputy Minister of Education said during the same occasion that it was gratifying that military cooperation between the two countries have continued to grow from strength to strength over the years.

He further expressed gratitude that China has continued to live up to its reputation of being an all-weather friend to Zambia through its continued role in the southern African nation's development agenda.
