Record high temperatures continue to bake parts of Xinjiang

English.news.cn   2015-07-25 13:52:02

BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Record high temperatures will continue to scorch areas in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region over the next three days, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said Saturday.

Temperatures will rise above 35 degrees Celsius in most areas of Xinjiang and the southern part will see record high temperatures of 44 to 47 degrees, said the NMC.

The "rare" heat was mainly caused by strong subtropical high pressure, it explained.

The region has been baked under a lingering heat wave in the past week, with temperatures climbing above 35 degrees in most areas, with some reaching 45 degrees, according to the NMC.

The NMC warned of potential risk of heat stroke and suggested outdoor work suspended.
