Chilean President Bachelet opens Indigenous Peoples Soccer Cup

SANTIAGO, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Chilean President Michelle Bachelet on Thursday opened the 1st Indigenous Peoples Soccer Cup in a colorful ceremony held in Penalolen community, in Santiago.

According to Cuban news agency Prensa Latina, Bachelet attended the opening ceremony, held in a cold but sunny morning in the Chilean capital. The tournament will last until July 25, when it will be officially closed in Arica.

Teams from eight countries will take part in the 1st Indigenous Peoples Soccer Cup, a tournament dedicated to integration in Chile and in other countries in the American continent.

Group A includes Chile, Peru, Paraguay, while Mexico cancelled its participation at the last moment. Group B includes Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia.
