Malaysia considering visa-free to Chinese tourists

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia proposed visa-free initiatives to Chinese tourists two weeks ago at the cabinet, Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said.

He expects substantive progress will be made in the near future, Malaysia Nanyang Siang Pau reported.

According to the paper, visa is one of the reasons that influence whether Chinese tourists visit Malaysia or not.

Malaysia has received 350,000 Chinese visitors so far in 2015, the minister said, which is far away from the 2 million figure in neighboring Indonesia and Thailand.

Indonesia and Thailand are visa-free countries to Chinese tourists. Therefore, Malaysian government should consider to provide visa-free to Chinese visitors, he added.
