JIANLI, Hubei, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers have retrieved the bodies of 434 victims a week after a Chinese cruise ship capsized on the Yangtze River during a fierce storm.
The bodies of two victims were recovered on Monday morning and eight people remained missing, according to the rescue headquarters in Jianli, central China's Hubei Province.
Local authorities have been matching the DNA of the victims with blood samples provided by their relatives. One victim has been cremated.
Among the 14 survivors, two men were discharged from the county hospital of Jianli on Monday morning. Another survivor, 65-year-old Zhu Hongmei, is expected to be discharged soon.
The Eastern Star cruise ship, carrying 456 people onboard, was on an 11-day trip along the Yangtze River when it was overturned by a tornado last Monday night in Jianli.
More than 3,400 soldiers, 1,700 paramilitary personnel, together with 149 vessels, 59 machines and a helicopter, have joined in the rescue mission.
