BERLIN, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Stuttgart's coach Huub Stevens stepped down after helping the club twice to maintain the top-flight status, the "Swabians" confirmed in an official statement on Sunday.
Stevens resigned as Stuttgart coach after helping the club twice in row to secure their first division status. The 61-year-old Dutchman took the helm in November 2014 after Armin Veh stepped down when the "VfB" were caught in the Bundesliga bottom.
"Huub has done an outstanding job here. He did not only manage to keep us in the league twice but it was also great to work with him. For this reasons alone, we owe him a deep gratitude. However, a decision was made and Huub will leave the club," Stuttgart's sporting director Robin Dutt told the club's official homepage.
Under Stevens the "Swabains" were able to maintain their Bundesliga status, as his men defeated Paderborn with a 2-1 comeback win to jump on the 14th place at the last match day.
