PARIS, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Croatia's Ivo Karlovic came out the first seeded player to eixt from the day 1 French Open here on Sunday after losing in straight sets to Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus at Roland Garros.
A shock-maker himself last year at the Grand Slam tournament, the 25th seed sent down 21 aces in the opening round match but could not prevent Baghdatis from winning 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-4.
Karlovic produced one of the shocks by defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the first round of the French Open last year.
Baghdatis, a former world No. 8 who's the runner-up of the Australian Open in 2006, broke twice in the second set before running out a convincing winner in the third.
Simultaneously on Court Philippe Chatrier, the second-seeded Roger Federer dodged a selfie-seeking fan scare before wrapping up his opening match easily past Alejandro Falla 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
A boy managed to breach security and ran onto the court before attempting to take a selfie with the 33-year-old Swiss, but security guards stepped in to usher the fan away.
The 2009 Roland Garros champion, making his 17th appearance at Roland Garros and playing his 62nd consecutive Grand Slam, will next play Marcel Granollers after the Spaniard beat Matthias Bachinger of Germany, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7).
