MANILA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Death toll rises to 31 in a fire that occurred at a sandals factory in Valenzuela City in Metro Manila, capital of the Philippines, on Wednesday noon, said local fire bureau officials.

Renato Marcial, Bureau of Fire Protection spokesperson, said the fire broke out around 11:28 a.m. local time at the warehouse along Sto Rosario street in Tatalon district in Ugong village.

He said the fire was put off at around 6:47 p.m. local time adding the fatalities were still "unidentifiable" as of press time.

According to reports from local media, around 300 workers were trapped inside the warehouse when the fire broke out.

Officials are still investigating as to what caused the fire.

MANILA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Death toll rises to 31 in a fire that occurred at a sandals factory in Valenzuela City in Metro Manila, capital of the Philippines, on Wednesday noon, said local fire bureau officials.
