SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, April 30 (Xinhua) -- An infant was charred to death and a 12-year-old girl went missing after a devastating fire broke out in a residential house in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Thursday.
The fire broke out at Laridoora village of Chandoosa in Baramulla district, about 50 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"A girl went missing after fire broke out in a house in Chandoosa ,while an infant lost his life in the incident," a police spokesman said. "The charred body of the infant has been recovered."
Efforts to trace the missing girl are going on.
Officials of the fire and emergency services department said chances of fire in the region increase as buildings and residential houses usually do not follow the safety standards vis- a-vis fire and store fuel and combustible materials in a haphazard manner.
