CHENGDU, April 27 (Xinhua) -- A 58-member medical team dispatched by the Chinese government arrived in Nepal on Monday morning to join relief efforts after the country's 8.1-magnitude earthquake.
The team, the first China has sent following the quake, reached Kathmandu at around 9 a.m. after a three-hour flight from Chengdu in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
"We will carry out medical treatment, epidemic prevention and psychological counseling in the quake zone", said Du Bo, head of the group. With their own equipment and supplies, they will work in Nepal for about 10 days.
Members of the group come from hospitals, disease prevention centers and the provincial health department in Sichuan.
Saturday's quake has killed more than 3,200 people in Nepal and 20 in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, which neighbors Nepal.
