China's legislature passes tougher Food Safety Law amendment

BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislature, on Friday voted to adopt an amendment to the Food Safety Law, which promises heavier penalties for offenders.

The revamped law will go into effect on Oct. 1, 2015.
