BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) will launch a special campaign against Internet content that is harmful toward minors, it said Thursday.

Online pornography, violence, terror and superstition will be cleaned up, according to a statement of the CAC.

The Internet had become a main source of information and socializing for minors, according to Ren Xianliang, deputy head of the CAC.

However, they are exposed to vulgar content, said Ren, posing a threat to the future of the Internet and the nation as a whole.

Along with the campaign, the CAC also plans to crack down on illegal religions, harmful information from overseas and information published by unlicensed journalists and media.
