LONDON, April 20 (Xinhua) -- The average asking price of homes in Britain hit an all-time in the month to early April as a fall in the number of properties on the market, a report from property website Rightmove showed on Monday.
Rightmove said the average new seller asking price has increased by 1.6 percent to a new record of 286,133 pounds (426,524 U.S. dollars) in April, according to Rightmove. The price surpasses the previous high set last June by 4,351 pounds.
A lack of sellers is the reason to push the average asking price of homes.
The property shortage experienced in many parts of the country has been exacerbated by a 2015
slump in the number of properties being put up for sale and by increased demand, with record spring search activity on Rightmove.
The number of new sellers fell 4 percent so far in 2015 compared to 2014, according to Rightmove.
Miles Shipside, Rightmove director and housing market analyst said:"Record high housing demand and an under-supply of homes have delivered a new all-time high in the price of property coming to market in the month before the election."
"The high cost of housing is a big concern for many home-hunters, so the contents of the respective party manifestos and well thought-out sustainable solutions to the lack of affordable housing supply will be high on many voters' agendas too," said Shipside. Enditem
