Chinese art troupe stages memorable performance in Zambia

LUSAKA, April 20 (Xinhua) -- An art troupe from Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, on Monday put up a memorable performance that left the Zambian audience gasping for more.

The Nanjing Little Red Flower Art Troupe conducted a two-hour performance at the Lusaka International Community School in the Zambia capital organized by China's Ministry of Culture, the Chinese Embassy in Zambia and Zambia's Ministry of Arts and Tourism.

The young Chinese boys and girls performed various acts, much to the amusement of the audience that was in attendance including Zambia's Deputy Minister of Tourism and Arts Esther Banda and Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Yang Youming.

The Chinese envoy said before the start of the performance that bilateral cultural exchanges between the two countries have become more frequent and were playing an irreplaceable role in promoting the friendship between peoples of the two countries.

"This performance will help to further promote the friendship between our peoples, especially the next generation of our two countries," he said.

The Chinese envoy emphasized the need for the two countries to create more opportunities for exchanges between children of the two countries so that they could acquire new knowledge and ideas by communicating with and learning from each other.

On her part, the Zambian minister lauded the Chinese government for its continued assistance to Zambia in various sphere, including the promotion of cultural exchanges between the two countries.

She said Zambia remains committed to the Beijing Declaration of the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China -- Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) at which the two countries reaffirmed to continue to strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation.
