THE HAGUE, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Bert Koenders made a closing speech on Friday praising the achievements made at the two-day Global Conference on CyberSpace (GCCS) which took place here.

"We started this conference by putting the vision of a free, open and secure Internet at the center of our discussions," Koenders said. "In building a common vision of cyberspace that incorporates these values, we need to invest in long-term efforts, creative initiatives and new coalitions."

During the conference, parties agreed on the importance of economic growth and social development, cyber security, the tackling of cyber crime, international peace and security, and the importance of privacy.

On Thursday, the GCCS launched the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise with 45 partners, both from states and intergovernmental organizations from the private sector, Koenders said.

Koenders also announced in his closing speech that Mexico would host the next GCCS in 2017.

"Mexico is a country with a large experience in cyberspace, with a national cyber strategy that is very ambitious and with a large ICT sector," Koenders said.

The previous Global Conferences on CyberSpace were held in London (2011), Budapest (2012) and Seoul (2013) and this week the fourth edition was staged here.

"Hosting these conferences needs to reflect the global dimension of cyberspace," Koenders added. "After conferences in Europe and Asia, it is time to take this process to the Western Hemisphere."
