LIMA, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Peru's oldest woman, Filomena Taipe, on Sunday died of age at 117, the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion said Monday.
Taipe, who was born in 1897 in the town of Pucuto, Acoria, in the southern Andean region of Huancavelica, credited natural food for living beyond her years.
When asked to reveal the secret of her longevity, Taipe talked about natural food, such as potatoes, milk, meat and goat cheese, never canned or packaged food or soft drinks, according to Radio Programs de Peru.
Taipe was a widow who raised nine children and outlived six of them.
More than 400 elderly people over 100 years are registered in the government pension program, and 51 of them live in the same Huancavelica region. The agricultural and fishing community where Taipe lived her entire life in an adobe home is situated 2,880 meters above sea level.
