BERLIN, March 24 (Xinhua) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel has canceled other appointments to keep informed on the plane crash of German budget airline Germanwings, her spokesman said Tuesday.
The flight 4U9525, which was scheduled to fly from Barcelona, Spain to Duesseldorf, Germany, was reported to have crashed on southern France on Tuesday.
German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said in a statement that Merkel was deeply shocked about the plane crash, and had made phone calls to French President Francois Hollande and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
The chancellor, the statement added, has canceled other appointments and is keeping informed on latest developments. She is scheduled to address the media about the accident later on Tuesday.
