SIEM REAP, Cambodia, March 21 (Xinhua) -- U.S. first lady Michelle Obama, the spouse of President of the United States Barack Obama, visited Cambodia's famed Angkor Wat Temple here on Saturday afternoon during her trip to the country to promote her " Let Girls Learn" global education initiative.
The UNESCO's World Heritage-listed Angkor Wat Temple is the kingdom's most populous tourist destination.
Michelle is the "first sitting first lady to ever visit Cambodia," according to the White House, adding that Jacqueline Kennedy and Hillary Clinton visited Cambodia previously, but not while they were the first ladies.
The first lady arrived in the Cambodian city of Siem Reap province on Friday night for a three-day cultural visit.
On Saturday morning, she, along with Bun Rany, the wife of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, visited female students at a high school and delivered a speech during a "Let Girls Learn" event.
Cambodia is Michelle's second leg of a two-Asian nation trip, which had already brought her to Japan, a partner in the "Let Girls Learn" initiative.
