GAZA, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Hamas movement said in an emailed statement Friday that the vehicle attack by a Palestinian driver in Jerusalem was a response to Israel's crimes.
"Hamas blesses the attack and believes that it is a natural response to the crimes of the Israeli occupation against our people," Sami Abu Zuhri, spokesman of Hamas in Gaza said in the statement.
Earlier on Friday, an Israeli police spokeswoman said in an emailed press statement that five female border police officers were injured after a Palestinian drove a car running over them in Jerusalem.
"The attack took place cross the street from the command headquarters of the Israeli border police in central Jerusalem," she said, adding that "the attacker is a Palestinian, he was injured and arrested."
Over the past several months, Palestinians carried out a series of run over and knives stabbing attacks in Jerusalem. They said the attacks were a response to Israel's policy against al-Aqsa Mosque in the old city.
