KHARTOUM, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- One hundred and forty-four members of China's peacekeeping infantry battalion of the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) arrived in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, on Friday morning.

This marks the successful deployment of the whole detachment sent in advance. And it also shows China's peacekeeping infantry have had the ability of self keeping and self guarantee in the logistics support system of the UNMISS.

This is the first time for China to send out an entire infantry battalion for international peacekeeping, whereas previously China's peacekeeping forces were only comprised of an engineering unit, a transportation unit, a medical unit, and a guard unit.

Members of this battalion are well-chosen and all of them are professional. Their skills cover hydroelectric, barracks, infantry, mechanization infantry, engineering and others.

The members of the detachment are skillful enough to manage any case of emergency that might happen in South Sudan's complex security situation.

As the peace process came to a standstill and the situation in the country deteriorated, the UN Security Council passed the Resolution No. 2155 on May 27, 2014 to strengthen its military presence in South Sudan.

And the UN invited China to dispatch a peacekeeping infantry battalion to join the UN mission in South Sudan in order to protect civilians and UN personnel and facilities.

It will also conduct humanitarian rescue operations and help the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in its supervisory and inspection missions.

And the follow-up units of 520 people will arrive in succession after the China's peacekeeping camp site is activated.
