DHAKA, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's anti-government protesters took to the streets and fought pitched battles with law enforcers in many districts, as the main opposition alliance enforced nationwide blockade on Tuesday morning.
Dozens of people were reportedly injured.
Four vehicles were smashed or set on fire during the hours of blockade in Dhaka Tuesday.
The traffic on Dhaka streets remained relatively thin as most private vehicles were kept indoors.
Handmade bombs have been exploded in old part of Dhaka. No casualties have been reported from the incident.
The ex-prime minister Khaleda Zia, who remained cordoned off inside her office since Saturday night, has announced indefinite blockade across the country and urged her 20-party alliance men to continue movement demanding fresh parliament polls under a non- party caretaker government.
Khaleda Zia made the announcement after she was barred to attend her alliance's anti-government rally on Jan. 5 in capital Dhaka.
