VIENNA, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Austrian Minister of Labor, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection Rudolf Hundstorfer has suffered a suspected pelvic fracture in a skiing accident, local media reported Tuesday.
The accident occurred on Monday, when the 63-year-old was skiing in the Oetscher region of Lower Austria, according to the Kronen Zeitung newspaper.
A ministry spokesperson said nobody else was involved in the accident, nor was there any foul play involved.
The minister is now being treated at the Vienna General Hospital. Doctors said that no operation will be needed, but he will have to stay in hospital for about two weeks and walk with crutches for some time thereafter.
Austrian politicians voiced their well-wishes upon hearing the news of the minister's accident, with Chancellor Werner Faymann and other Social Democrat Party colleagues releasing a statement saying, "We wish you a speedy recovery, dear Rudi." Similar statements were also made by politicians from other parties.
