SURABAYA, Indonesia, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- AirAsia Indonesia said here Tuesday it will be inviting family members of passengers of its Flight QZ8501 to the Indonesian city of Surabaya, where the bodies of the perished people will be identified.
The plane lost contact with the Indonesian air traffic control 42 minutes after taking off from the city on Monday morning.
Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency of Indonesia confirmed Tuesday afternoon the debris found in the Karimata Strait is indeed from Flight QZ8501.
"At the present time, search and rescue operations are still in progress and further investigation of the debris found at the location is still underway," the company said in a press statement.
"AirAsia Indonesia will be inviting family members to Surabaya, where a dedicated team of care providers will be assigned to each family to ensure that all of their needs are met," it said, adding, "Counselors, religious and spiritual personnel have also been invited to the family center to provide any necessary services."
Tony Fernandes, group chief executive officer of AirAsia, said that their priority now was the well-being of the family members of those onboard QZ8501, according to the statement
The group CEO said earlier Tuesday that his heart was filled with sadness for all families involved in Flight QZ8501.
"On behalf of AirAsia my condolences to all. Words cannot express how sorry I am," he said on his twitter account.
Sunu Widyatmoko, chief executive officer of AirAsia Indonesia, also expressed sincere sympathies to the family and friends of those on board the plane, the company statement said.
