Rocket attack, blasts kill 3 Afghans, wounds 9

KABUL, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- The ongoing Afghan militancy in the shape of rocket attack and bomb blasts have left three people dead and injured nine others since Saturday evening, sources confirmed Sunday.

In the latest violent incident which happened in Afghan capital city Kabul, three people sustained injuries as a bomb struck a vehicle Sunday morning. "A bomb planted on the vehicle of Mawlawi Aziz Rahman Sediqi, the head of religious council of Wardak province, went off Sunday morning injuring three people including Sediqi, his son and driver, " local television channel Tolo reported in its news bulletin.

Citing the police, the media outlet added that the device was a sticky bomb attached on the vehicle of Sediqi which exploded at 09: 00 a.m. local time and wounded him badly.

In a similar violent attack, a motorbike bomb was exploded next to a police van in Hairatan district of the northern Balkh province Sunday morning injuring one civilian, local media reported.

However, officials have yet to make comment.

Meanwhile, a rocket fired by anti-government militants presumably by Taliban outfit on a volleyball ground in Wardak province with Maidan Shahr as its capital 35 km west of Kabul claimed three lives and injured five others Saturday evening, spokesman for provincial government Attaullah Khogiani said Sunday. "Two groups of youths were playing volleyball in Omarkhil village of Nurkh district Saturday evening when a rocket fired by militants slammed onto the ground killing three players and injuring five others including three players and two onlookers," Khogiani told reporters.

Two of those killed in the attack are students, according to the local people.

Although no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, locals blamed Taliban insurgents for the offensive.
