MAIDAN SHAHR, Afghanistan, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Afghan militants' rocket attack on a volleyball ground in the country's Wardak province with Maidan Shahr as its capital 35 km west of Kabul claimed three lives and injured five others Saturday evening, spokesman for provincial government Attaullah Khogiani said Sunday. "Two groups of youths were playing volleyball in Omarkhil village of Nurkh district Saturday evening when a rocket fired by militants slammed onto the ground killing three players and injuring five others including three players and two onlookers," Khogiani told reporters.

Although no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, locals blamed Taliban insurgents for the offensive.

A suicide attack on volleyball ground in Yahyakhil district of the eastern Paktika province early last month had left more than 100 people dead and injured.
