SINGAPORE, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Singapore shares closed 0.16 percent higher Friday, buoyed by upbeat U.S. data which suggested weaker oil prices are providing additional momentum for the U.S. economy.

U.S. stocks rose overnight on data showing that cheaper gasoline prices apparently helped U.S. consumer spending mark rises last month, and jobless claims also fell.

Singapore's benchmark Straits Times Index rose 5.43 points to 3, 324.13 points. Trading volume was 1.25 billion shares worth 1.07 billion Singapore dollars. Advancers slightly outnumbered decliners 199 to 178, while 562 stocks did not move.

Global Logistic Properties rose 0.8 percent to 2.55 Singapore dollars. It has signed new agreements totaling 65,000 square meters with four industry leaders in six locations across China.

All the new agreements are signed with existing customers. The facilities will be used to cater to growing domestic consumption, distributing consumer products sold online and in retail stores

CH Offshore Limited jumped 8.6 percent to 50.5 Singapore cents. Falcon Energy Group proposed to make a voluntary conditional cash offer for all the issued and paid-up ordinary shares of CH Offshore. The offer price of 49.5 Singapore cents for each share of CH Offshore represents a 6.45 percent premium over the last closing price.

The general offer, if successful, will allow Falcon Energy to expand its marine division and increase fleet capabilities. CH Offshore operates a fleet of 15 anchor handling tug supply vessels and has a track record of over 30 years in providing marine support services to the oil and gas industry worldwide. Falcon Energy currently owns 29.07 percent of the total number of issued CH Offshore shares.

Among top gainers, Jardine Strategic rose 1.5 percent to 33.81 U.S. dollars, while Jardine Cycle and Carriage became one of the top losers by falling 0.8 percent to 42.25 Singapore dollars. (1 U. S. dollar equals 1.31 Singapore dollars)
