Central Gov't's energetic support to Tibet's development

    BEIJING, Feb. 6 -- "There's no country or party in the world like our country and the Communist Party of China (CPC), which, in more than a decade, pooled the whole nation's strength to support the development of an ethnic region."

    BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Tibet received a total of 154 billion yuan (about 23 billion U.S. dollars) in transfer payment from the Central Government during the 2001-2008 period, or 93.7 percent of Tibet's total financial resources.

    "That means that of every 100 yuan Tibet spends, 90 percent comes from the Central Government." Nyimar Tsering, vice-chairman of Tibet Autonomous Regional Government, made this statement when briefing on Tibet's overall development and prospects at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office here Tuesday. Senior Chinese legislator stresses common prosperity of all ethnic groups

    BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese legislator Wednesday called on all ethnic groups in the country to unite and work for the goal of common prosperity and progress.

    Ismail Tiliwaldi, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks at a party with more than 1,000 participants of various ethnic groups in celebration of the upcoming Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, which falls on Feb. 14 this year. Full story
