"I always take gummed tape during the climbing in order to stick up the broken limbs."

He is taking a risk, isn't he?

However, Mark said with a smile: "I lost my legs but I didn't lose my passion."

There are always hardships. Mountaineering is considered a challenge to the nature. Why not remain pleasant when facing an extreme challenge? "Why do I remain optimistic about my life? Because optimism is free of charge."

The man, who left the mountain with his five fingers, dialed his wife's phone number at the first time reaching the top of the world's highest peak. "I made it! I made it!" an irrepressible excitement burst out from him.

Before scaling Mt. Qomolangma, Mark once made a pair of artificial limbs like his for a Tibetan herdsman. In fact, he has been cooperating with a Cambodian charity and founded a foundation of "Limb 4 All" with his wife in New Zealand, helping fit prosthesis for those without legs.

The foundation has raised 100,000 U.S. dollars during the past two years. "We are striving to raise five million U.S. dollars within ten years. I hope more people will enjoy the pleasure of mountaineering," Mark said.

People often believed that it must be a miracle that a legless person succeeds in mountaineering. But what Mark has done is to make a difference in this world of ours!

    Tips for climbers

Think before climbing: is it worthwhile to risk your life to climb the mountain?

Remember that conquering is not your sole ultimate goal. You are still a winner as long as you take your courage in both hands and the necessary experience of being aggressive in the course.

For you, returning home sound and safe is regarded as the greatest success.

    Equipment

Crampons, a walking stick, an ice axe, a down-filled sleeping bag that can protect you from coldness of minus 40 degree Centigrade, and a pair of down-filled gloves
