Tibet grants subsidies to 73,000 needy residents

    BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The Tibet Autonomous Regional Government began to grant 44 million yuan (about 6.45 million U.S. dollars) in subsidies to 73,000 needy residents and retirees from State-owned enterprises from Wednesday.

    The low-income people will be subsidized with each receiving 600 yuan in cash or shopping cards with the same amount of money before February 10.

    The move is designed to help such people enjoy the Spring Festival and Tibetan New Year and to promote consumption during holidays.

    Residents will be able to do shopping with the shopping cards in Tibet's circulation enterprises and outlets.

Needy ethnic minority college students to receive subsidies

    BEIJING, Jan. 27 (Xinhuanet)-- China has begun to implement a plan to help poor college students from Tibetan and other ethnic minority areas to complete their study.

    The inaugural ceremony was held in Beijing Tuesday and the plan is sponsored by the State Nationalities Affairs Commission (SNAC) and the China Construction Bank (CCB). Full story

Tibet to allot 290 mln yuan in rural subsidies in 2010

    BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Tibet will allot 290 million yuan RMB (42.46 million U.S. dollars) in subsidies to local farmers for buying chemical fertilizers, fine seeds, farm machines and means of agricultural production in 2010.

    The move is designed to increase the incomes of local farmers and herders, according to the Regional Conference on Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Development. Full story
