MADRID, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona president Joan Laportamade a call on Sunday for coach Pep Guardiola to decide his future by the start of April.
Guardiola led Barcelona to a record six titles in 2009, but his contract expires at the end of June and he has yet to agree terms to a new deal.
Laporta meanwhile will leave the presidency at the end of the season and wants to ensure the continuity of the coach who has made Barcelona the best team in the World.
Guardiola has so far resisted calls for him to renew his contract because he says that he doesn't want to be a factor in the forthcoming presidential race.
The coach is also reluctant to risk working with another president who would maybe prefer to have someone else in charge of team affairs.
Meanwhile current man in charge is losing his patience and wants to secure the club's future before he abandons his position.
"There will come a moment when we need to have something clear," Laporta told Spanish TV Station La Sexta, before giving a date when he would like to have Guardiola's decision.
"Easter Week (the first week of April) would be a good time forus to know who the coach is going to be," he said.
Laporta said he was optimistic that Guardiola would decide to continue at the club.
"The look of hope in Pep's eyes gives me hope and helps me feel calm about his decision," he concluded.
