RAMALLAH, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday stressed that he won't meet Hamas' chief Khaled Mashaal unless the Islamic movement signs an Egyptian proposal for Palestinian reconciliation.

Abbas' remarks appeared on the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, after reports quoted a Kuwaiti official as saying that Abbasand Mashaal would meet to complete the reconciliation within 10 days.

"We are now waiting the time in which Hamas would like to sign the Egyptian document," Abbas said. "Once Hamas signed, there willbe a meeting with them (Hamas) after one hour, half an hour or a quarter of an hour."

Abbas stressed that the declaration of the Palestinian reconciliation must take place in Egypt which had sponsored six sessions of in-depth national Palestinian dialogue.

Abbas has accused Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, of blocking the reconciliation and the agreement that Egypt has prepared "to serve regional and personal agenda," referring to Hamas' ties with Iran and Syria.

Hamas has rejected the Egyptian offer, saying it brought in articles that had not been agreed on during the series of factional talks in Cairo.
