RAMALLAH, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian National Authority (PNA) officials denied on Saturday that European Union (EU) linked its financial aid to the Palestinians with achieving progress in the stalled Middle East peace.
Earlier Israeli media reports published on Friday said that the EU informed the U.S. administration that it won't keep its financial donations to the PNA during year 2010 without achieving a progress in the peace process.
Nabil Abu Rdeineh, an aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, told Xinhua that "these reports are totally untrue," adding the Palestinian leadership has not been officially informed and so far the EU has been supporting the PNA.
Meanwhile, PNA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad told reporters on Saturday during a visit to the West Bank city of Hebron that his government still seeks to gain more donations to implement vital projects in the West Bank.
"The Palestinian people insist on continuing development in the Palestinian territories despite the occupation and the expansion of settlements," said Fayyad.
Nabil Shaath, member of Fatah movement's central committee, told Xinhua on Saturday that "if the reports over reducing the EU donations to the Palestinians are true, it will be unaccepted pressure."
"The Palestinian leadership doesn't impose conditions on resuming the peace talks, but all we demand is a full Israeli commitment to what has been agreed upon in the Roadmap peace plan," said Shaath.
He added that any pressure on the Palestinians "will be ineffective and will bring negative consequences to the entire peace process."
